A Bogra pharmacy owner has been fined Tk20,000 for allegedly selling saline solutions, originally priced at Tk91, at an inflated cost of Tk200 to the relatives of patients during a crisis.
The owner of Janata Pharmacy, Rabiul Islam Rabbi, was penalized by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection during a drive on Wednesday afternoon.
Iftekharul Alam Rizvi, assistant director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Bogra district office, conducted the drive in front of the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in the Silimpur area of the city.
Iftekharul Alam Rizvi said that a tip-off led to a raid at Janata Pharmacy, revealing saline labelled with an MRP of Tk91 was being sold for Tk200.
Pharmacy owner Rabiul Islam Rabbi admitted to the truth and was fined Tk20,000 as a result, he said.
In addition, he was warned against overpricing, selling counterfeit toxic drugs, and profiteering by burdening the patients, said the assistant director of DNCRP Bogra district office.
