The Office of the Registrar General, Birth and Death Registration has introduced a new rule on the cancellation of multiple birth certificates of one person.
According to the new rules, an individual can conveniently keep any of their birth certificates and cancel the others.
The cancellation process can be completed through a separate online application, reads the guideline.
According to the previous rule, individuals were required to retain their first birth certificate and cancel any additional ones.
On July 5, the Office of the Registrar General of Births and Deaths sent a letter to all registration offices, chief executive officers of all city corporations, offices of deputy commissioners and all upazila nirbahi officers, referring to the approval process for the cancellation of birth and death certificates.
The change in rules comes in order to address the problems faced by those who have several birth certificates online.
