In response to a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases, a special campaign for administering the third and fourth doses of the Covid-19 vaccine has been launched across Bangladesh.
The campaign, commencing on Wednesday, is set to run for a week until July 11, as per an announcement made by the Directorate General of Health Services' Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).
The initiative aims to provide additional protection against the coronavirus for citizens aged 18 or older by offering them the third and fourth doses of the vaccine.
Those who have received their second or third doses at least four months prior are eligible to get vaccinated in this campaign.
Special emphasis in this drive will be given to frontline workers, those over 60, individuals with chronic diseases, and groups with weakened immune systems, including pregnant women.
Additionally, unvaccinated citizens aged 18 or above who have not yet received their first or second doses are also encouraged to get vaccinated.
Children aged between 5 and 11 who have not received their first or second doses can also get their shots at designated centres during this campaign.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh logged 86 more Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total caseload rose to 2,042,940 according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The official death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,462 as no new fatalities were reported.
The daily case test positivity increased to 6.96% from Tuesday's 3.80% as 1,236 samples were tested.
The death and recovery rates remained at 1.44% and 98.37%, respectively, DGHS said.
Over the past few weeks, Bangladesh has witnessed a slight surge in the number of Covid-19 cases
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 in 2021 and highest number of fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.
