The second unit of the Adani Power plant in India has begun commercial operations, enabling Bangladesh to import an increased volume of electricity.
Adani Power issued a statement at the Mumbai stock exchange on Monday, announcing the successful commencement of commercial operations for the second unit at 24:00 hours BST, following the successful completion of Reliability Run Tests.
Officials at the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) and sources within Adani have confirmed the development as well.
The power plant, located in a village in Jharkhand, India, about 100km from the Bangladesh border, delivers electricity to Bangladesh through a dedicated transmission line.
With this second unit's operation, the power plant's total capacity now stands at 1,496 megawatts.
This increased capacity grants Bangladesh greater flexibility in importing electricity as per its needs.
The plant's first unit, with a capacity of 748MW, began commercial operation on April 7.
