Renowned Economist Dr Reza Kibria has been ousted from his party, Gono Odhikar Parishad due to his conflict with the party's Member Secretary, Nurul Haque Nur.

Muhammad Rashed Khan has been appointed as the acting convener of the party.

The decision was made during a central committee meeting held at the party's central office in Purana Paltan on Monday night.

Nur officially raised the issue of his conflict with Reza Kibria in a Facebook status posted around 9:30pm on Monday. Earlier, after the meeting on Sunday night, Reza Kibria publicly criticized Nur in the media.

Reza Kibria's disagreement with Nurul Haque Nur has been a simmering issue for over a year, with their conflict intensifying on various fronts, including who would take the lead in representing the party in the media.

On October 26, 2021, Reza Kibria, a former IMF official, launched the party along with Nur in the country's political arena, with the aim to challenge the status quo and pursue the rule of democracy.

Prior to that, in December 2018, Reza Kibria left his position at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and joined Gano Forum.

On February 7, 2021, he submitted his resignation letter to the party's president, Dr Kamal Hossain. Since then, he has been involved in some events organized by the Amar Bangladesh Party. Reza Kibria also delivered a prepared statement at the party's official press conference on the FY22 budget.

Currently, he is residing outside of the country.
