Highway Police Chief Additional Inspector General (AIG) Md Shahabuddin Khan has said that vehicles transporting sacrificial animals cannot be halted on the highways unless there is a specific complaint lodged against them.
He advised traders to prominently display a banner on each vehicle, clearly indicating the destination of the livestock being transported.
These remarks were made during a coordination meeting on the traffic situation during Eid-ul-Azha, held at the headquarters of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Uttara on Wednesday.
AIG Khan emphasized that no one has the authority to divert any vehicle to a cattle market other than its original intended destination.
He stressed the importance of having the destination clearly marked on the front and back of each vehicle carrying sacrificial animals to eliminate any possibility of extortion or illegal activities along the highways.
AIG Khan assured that strict measures would be taken to prevent drug dealers from exploiting the situation.
Regarding the allegations of drug transportation using sacrificial animal trucks, AIG Khan said that the law enforcers are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that drug dealers do not get any opportunity to take advantage of the circumstances.
The Highway Police chief said his instructions aim to ensure smooth and hassle-free transportation of sacrificial animals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival, while also maintaining the security and integrity of the highways.
