Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman used to believe that the six-point demand would bring the economic, political and cultural emancipation of the Bangali nation.
Terming six-point demand as the turning point of the country's independence, she said: "Bangabandhu used to think that one day, the six-point demand would bring the political economic and cultural emancipation for the Bangali in the country."
Dipu Moni, also Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary, said this while addressing a discussion titled Six-Point: Bangali's Emancipation Charter held at Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club (NPC), organized by the Bangabandhu Parishad marking the historic Six-Point Day.
Noting that six-point demand was the struggle for life and death of the people of East Bengal, she said if these demands were implemented, the fate of the poor people of Bengal had changed, the economic disparity between the two regions of Pakistan was removed and the Bangalis were freed from exploitation and deprivation forever.
With Acting President of Bangabandhu Parishad and eminent academician Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair, the main article of the discussion was presented by prominent journalist and presidium member of Bangabandhu Parishad Ajit Kumar Sarkar.
General Secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad central committee Professor ABM Faroque conducted the discussion while Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, former Vice Chancellor of Khulna University and Presidium member of Bangabandhu Parishad Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman, Ekushey Padak-winning journalist Ajay Dasgupta and Bangabandhu Parishad Organizing Secretary S M Lutfar Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
Arefin Siddique said that Bangabandhu realized in 1948 that the fate of the poor people of Bengal could never be changed within the state structure of Pakistan.
So, he (Bangabandhu) raised the six-point demand for the Bangalis for their freedom, he said, adding that the six-point demand was not only a matter related to the interests of Bangalis rather it was a just and logical demand of the entire Pakistan.
"This six-point demand was the demand of the oppressed and neglected people of the world," he continued.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Dasgupta said that the Pakistani rulers took deferent measures, including filing false and fabricated conspiracy-cases against Bangabandhu, to halt his progress after seeing the massive public support for the six-point.
"But Bangabandhu, the friend of Bengal, was so popular that even with all the torture, lawsuits and attacks of the Pakistan government, the six-point movement could not be stopped," he added.
