A group of 20 lawyers from all over Bangladesh have placed a request to Bangladesh Bar Council to make wearing black coats optional during summer.
The appeal was submitted to Bangladesh Bar Council's chairman citing various health risks of wearing dark-coloured clothes during the intense heat.
Lawyers have expressed that due to their professional obligations, they are required to wear the attire ordered by the Bangladesh Bar Council. This requirement applies every month throughout the year, despite Bangladesh being a mostly hot country.
The appeal also mentions that lawyers across the country endure severe physical and mental distress due to the high temperature and humidity from March to October every year.
The lawyers added that dark clothes absorb heat more, therefore it would be beneficial to avoid wearing black during the summer.
The lawyers have also mentioned that a 44-year-old lawyer named Shafiul Alam died on Thursday due to heatstroke.
