A 25-bed heatstroke centre has been inaugurated at the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Dedicated Covid Hospital in Mohakhali.
The Heatstroke Centre was inaugurated under the supervision of the DNCC on Monday.
According to hospital sources, the centre will provide free medical services to patients suffering from heat-related illnesses to combat the ongoing heat wave.
During the inauguration, DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said that if the number of patients suffering from heat-related illnesses increases during the heat wave, the number of beds can be increased if necessary.
He also noted that the hospital has an ICU facility on the second floor, and arrangements will be made to transfer patients there in case of critical complications.
Currently, a heatwave is sweeping across the city, posing an extreme health risk in Dhaka.
This emergency public service of the DNCC has been integrated into the National Emergency Service via the 999 number.
