Crowd-free platform gives relief to railway travellers

Most passengers express satisfaction with online ticketing system and three-tier checking system for hassle-free Eid trips

Update : 19 Apr 2023, 05:26 PM

Dhaka city residents, who mostly travel by train to go to their homes, enjoyed a crowd-free platform on Wednesday, the first day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

Tuesday was the last working day for most employees before the holiday and people have started to leave the capital by road, sea, air or rail.

It was a common scenario on railway platforms to see crowded trains and long lines at stations during Eid holidays; however, this time, due to the online ticketing system, there were no mismanagement issues at the railway stations.

While visiting the Kamalapur Railway Station, a relaxed, and crowd-free platform was seen, where people moved freely.

The online ticketing system reduced the crowd and there were no long lines of passengers waiting to board the train like before.

Besides, railway authorities have set up a three-tiered checking system to prevent the entry of passengers without tickets.

Passengers have started reaping the benefits of these decisions taken by Bangladesh Railways on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Many of them have expressed their satisfaction with these measures.

Passenger Abdus Samad expressed his satisfaction by saying: “We can now travel without any hassle. I booked the ticket online 10 days ago and was able to enter the platform with my mother without any trouble. We were checked to see whether we had the tickets or not, but we were not asked to show ID.”

The online ticketing system has been receiving praise from all passengers. However, along with the praise, there have also been complaints and demands. Most passengers have expressed that the server system should be further improved.

Tarek Hasan, who is travelling to Shantahar, said: “I bought the ticket online yesterday. It took me some time to get the ticket due to the server being down.”

Tapan Mandal, another passenger traveling with his wife, said the online ticketing system has made things much better, as people no longer have to stand in line early in the morning.

However, he mentioned that there were some issues while booking his ticket online due to server problems.

Mostafa Ahmed, a passenger from Brahmanbaria, said the online ticketing system has been an improvement. However, he believes that the server issues should be fixed. He said: "On April 8, I started trying to book a ticket from 8am and managed to do so at 9:30am after non-stop attempts.

“However, the entry system at the station has improved. They have arranged separate rows for everyone. Before, I used to see crowds when I entered the platform, but not this time. Everything has been done in an orderly manner," he added.

Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md Masud Sarwar stated that several measures were taken to ensure safe travel for passengers, especially during Eid.

A three-tier checking system was implemented and passengers were not allowed to enter the platform without tickets. As a result, ticket holders were able to board the train without any hassle.
