Firefighters have been struggling to put out a fire at Dhaka's New Supermarket, resorting to breaking and entering through its roof to boost their efforts.
The fire, which had broken out early Saturday, was still burning after seven hours.
As of 12:40pm, the latest reports indicate that the fire has not yet been completely brought under control.
The fire started on the second floor of New Supermarket, and the members of the Border Guard Bangladesh, fire service, police, Rapid Action Battalion, army, air force and Dhaka Wasa's water-carrying vehicles were working on the spot.
Shop owners rushed to the market after hearing the news of the fire at dawn, trying to salvage as many goods as they could.
Many of them burst into tears upon seeing their shops go up in flames.
Traders suspect the fire might have occurred due to a heavy load of electricity and the non-repair of electrical lines.
Others are thinking that fire from an AC line spread throughout the entire market.
