A fire broke out at a British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh warehouse in Ashulia’s Nalam area on Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out around 7:30am, with seven Fire Service units working to bring it under control. Additional units have been kept on standby as the blaze spread rapidly through the warehouse.
Two units from Jirabo Fire Station initially responded, followed by two more from the same station, two from DEPZ Fire Station and one from Dhamrai Fire Station. Four Industrial Police teams are also assisting.
The fire has caused panic among nearby residents, some of whom moved their belongings to safer locations as a precaution.
Konok Chowdhury, senior station officer of DEPZ Fire Service, said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
“Six units are currently working to bring the fire under control. More units have been kept ready if needed. Details will be provided once the fire is brought under control,” he said.
