Dr Zafrullah to be buried at Gono Bishwabidyalay Friday

Although his body was supposed to be donated, his family members finally decided to bury it

The heroic freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, will be buried at Gono Bishwabidyalay on Friday.

He will be buried at his own established public university after the fifth namaz-e-janaza in Savar.

Although his body was supposed to be donated, his family members finally decided to bury it.

Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad, disclosed the information on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, after paying final respects at Shaheed Minar on Thursday morning, the third namaz-e-janaza of Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was completed at Suhrawardy Udyan at 2.30pm.

Khatib of Dhaka University Central Mosque Mufti Syed Emdad Uddin led the namaz-e-janaza.

Thousands of people including various political and cultural figures participated. 

Earlier, his body was taken to the Shaheed Minar around 10:05am.

The valiant freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah was given a guard of honour at the Shaheed Minar.

Planning Minister Abdul Mannan paid his respect to Zafrullah at the Shaheed Minar. 

Worker's party leader Rashed Khan Menon, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, among others including representatives of Bangladesh Medical Association, Women's Party and Bangladesh NAP paid their respects.

Besides, common people came to Shaheed Minar to pay their respects.

His family members, including wife Shirin Haque, are also there at the Shaheed Minar premises.

Another one will be held at Dhanmondi Nagar Hospital at 4pm.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury breathed his last aged 81 at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital late Tuesday.

Zafrullah was transported to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, after becoming dangerously ill on April 5.

A medical board comprised of notable physicians was established on April 7 for his treatment.

He was put on life support on Monday after his condition deteriorated.

The noted physician had also been politically active for the past few years, although he was relatively inactive in politics this year.

He leaves behind his wife, son, daughter and scores of well-wishers.
