Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has warned that those who betray the July uprising, its martyrs’ blood and the people’s aspirations will not be spared.
He made the remarks on Friday while addressing a mass rally organized by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, Dhaka. Speaking as chief guest, he also outlined the current political situation and the challenges following the July uprising.
Jamaat Ameer said their struggle would continue until the people’s fundamental and political rights are secured, adding that they would not bow to any “undemocratic forces”.
He described the July mass uprising as a charter of liberation for the country’s people. Those attempting to undermine its spirit or disrespect the sacrifices of the martyrs through covert conspiracies would be identified, he warned.
Calling for the full implementation of the referendum verdict, he said the 11-party alliance would remain active both on the streets and in parliament until its goals are achieved.
He added that the alliance would not rest until the referendum outcome is fully realized, stressing that the broader unity aims to establish a society based on equality and justice.
At the rally, the opposition leader placed particular emphasis on the full implementation of the “July Charter”, describing it not merely as a political document but as a reflection of a people’s uprising led by students and the masses.
Senior leaders of other alliance partners also addressed the gathering. Thousands of activists attended, turning Suhrawardy Udyan into a vast sea of individuals. Speakers collectively called for preserving the memory of those killed in the July uprising and ensuring rehabilitation for the injured.
