A case has been filed against Bogra district unit General Secretary of Jatiya Sramik League Shamsuddin Sheikh Helal along with his wife and son, for acquiring wealth of about Tk15 crore beyond known income on Sunday.
The other accused are Helal's first wife Helena Parveen and son Hossain Habib.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Bogra office Deputy Director Md Moniruzzaman filed the case after allegations were made regarding false and baseless declaration of over Tk1.5 crore and transfer of assets worth over Tk1 crore in the name of his second wife Abe Zamzam Nazi.
Helal denied the accusations against him and his family, saying that he regularly paid his income taxes.
According to the statement, Shamsuddin Sheikh Helal, his wife Helena Parveen and son Hossain Habib were ordered to submit the statement of movable and immovable assets. In view of this, they submitted the asset statement to the ACC Bogra district office on May 25, 2021.
The investigation revealed that Helal acquired undisclosed income amounting to Tk9,72,40,926.34 along with giving false and baseless declaration of Tk58,42,084 in his asset statement.
Besides, he has committed the crime of handing over immovable property worth Tk1,02,59,357 to his second wife Abe Zamzam Nazi.
The statement also said that his wife Helena Parveen has acquired undisclosed assets of Tk2,41,23,983.41 including false and baseless declaration of Tk16,94,189 in the asset declaration.
Besides, she has committed the crime of transferring immovable property worth Tk1,72,12,439 in the name of her husband, son and daughter.
In addition, their son Hossain Habib has committed the crime of obtaining assets outside the known income of Tk2,80,05,349 along with giving false and baseless declaration of Tk77,80,622 in his wealth statement.
According to the three cases against them, they made false declaration of Tk1,53,16,895 in asset statement. At the same time, they have earned Tk14,93,70,258.75 assets outside of known source of income.
Md Moniruzzaman, deputy director of ACC Bogra district office and the plaintiff in the case, said that officials will be appointed soon to investigate the cases.
