The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Dr Enamur Rahman, former state minister for disaster management and relief and ex-MP of Dhaka-19, over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth.

Confirming the development to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday, ACC Director General (prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain said the former lawmaker is accused of amassing Tk6.50 crore in undeclared assets and conducting suspicious transactions worth Tk12.69 crore across five bank accounts.

In January, Dr Enamur was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from Bashundhara in the capital.

A two-time MP from Dhaka-19 under the Awami League’s electoral symbol, he served as state minister for disaster management and relief from 2019 to 2024.

According to the case statement, Enamur’s wife, Rowshan Akter Chowdhury, has assets worth Tk28.26 crore registered under her name. Suspecting that she might own additional undisclosed properties, the ACC has issued a notice seeking details of her assets.

The case report further reveals that Enamur has Tk8.53 crore in declared assets, while his legitimate earnings during the relevant period amount to only Tk2.02 crore.

The ACC alleged that he engaged in money laundering by transferring, converting, and concealing the sources of his illicit wealth.
