A Dhaka tribunal on Sunday set March 2 for a hearing on charge framing against e-commerce platform Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The hearing was supposed to be held on Sunday, but Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Zulfikar Hayat postponed it as the police could not present the accused, Rassel, who is in jail, due to the 56th Bishwa Ijtema.

Shamim Al Mamun, bench assistant of the tribunal, confirmed the matter.

Earlier, the tribunal fixed October 19 for accepting the charge sheet in the case, however, Shamima pleaded for time through a lawyer without appearing in court. The court rejected the time plea and issued an arrest warrant for her.

On September 30, 2021, a customer named Alamgir Hossain filed the case against Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima at Badda police station, on charges of embezzling money through digital fraud.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff ordered products worth Tk28 lakh from Evaly through two accounts on the company site and paid the bill.

Evaly promised to deliver the products within 45 days of the order. But the customer did not receive the products. The company also did not return the customer's money.

After investigating the case, the police pressed charges against the two Evaly bosses.
