Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said there was no lapse in security for US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Hass.

He made these remarks regarding an incident at a missing BNP leader's residence visited by the ambassador on Wednesday.

“Our security system is so tight that there are police in every ward. After learning about the disturbance at a BNP leader's house during the visit of the US ambassador, the OC of the local police station rushed there in civilian clothes,” he said at a meeting in the conference room of the Home Ministry.

“We do not know how the information was leaked about the US ambassador's visit to that BNP leader's house. The information might have been leaked from his office as well,” the home minister said.

“Some people went there with a demand after learning about the visit. I heard they went to talk about the extrajudicial killings of some people during Ziaur Rahman's regime,” he added.

US Ambassador Peter Haas visited the home of BNP leader Sajedul Islam, an alleged victim of enforced disappearance, on Wednesday.

However, he had to leave the place early for security reasons as chaos was created by leaders and activists of the ruling party and a group of people under the banner of “Mayer Kanna”. They gathered in front of the home of Sajedul Islam in Saheenbagh of the city and tried to talk to the US envoy.

Later, Peter Haas talked with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, and the minister assured him of his security.
