Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed confidence after meeting with US Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Haas.
He stated: "Why should we feel pressure? Conducting free and fair elections is our commitment. There's no reason to feel pressured here. The government is not influenced by the presence of foreigners."
Quader made these remarks while addressing journalists at the central office of Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue around 12:30pm on Thursday.
Prior to this, a delegation from Awami League, including Obaidul Quader, had a meeting with the US ambassador in Dhaka, lasting approximately one and a half hours.
Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, Quader highlighted that discussions were held about the upcoming election.
He emphasized that the party's commitment and statements regarding the elections remain consistent, no matter who they converse with. Awami League stands firmly for peaceful, free, and fair elections, reflecting their commitment to the nation and democracy, a result of their prolonged struggle.
Quader stressed that protecting democracy is a sacred responsibility that they are actively fulfilling.
He clarified that during the meeting, the US ambassador did not raise any complaints or suggestions regarding the formation of a caretaker government, resignation of the prime minister, dissolution of parliament, or any other major political matters.
The US administration has consistently emphasized the importance of free, fair, and impartial elections for the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections. As part of this initiative, US Ambassador Peter Haas is engaging in courtesy meetings with leaders of various political parties in Bangladesh.
