Ekushe Padak winner Samarjit Roy Chowdhury passed away at the age of 85 in Dhaka on Sunday.
He breathed his last at around 2:40pm at Lab Aid Hospital, said the artist’s son Surjit Roy Chowdhury.
He added: "On September 5, my father was admitted to Dhaka’s Lab Aid Hospital. He was released on September 12, but had to be readmitted three days later as his condition deteriorated.”
Samarjit Roy Chowdhury was born in Comilla in 1937.
He earned his graphic design degree from the then Government Art Institute in Dhaka University in 1960.
Chowdhury joined the faculty of Dhaka University and worked for 43 years and retired as professor in 2003.
He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2014 for his outstanding contributions in art.
