Update : 28 Mar 2026, 10:48 PM

Firoz Alam, 60, publisher and editor of the Feni-based daily Suprabhat Protidin, has passed away.

He breathed his last at around 1:00pm on Saturday while being taken by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors at the emergency department said he had died before arrival.

Auto-rickshaw driver Anwar Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that he had been waiting for passengers at Sayedabad Janapath intersection at around 12:45pm when Firoj Alam and another person hired him for Tk500 to go to the heart institute. However, he later set off with only Firoj Alam. On the way, Alam became restless and fell unconscious within two to three minutes. On the advice of police and locals, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Firoj Alam had been involved in sports journalism for many years since the 1980s. He later joined Sonali Bank and retired recently. Afterwards, he resumed journalism by obtaining a declaration for a newspaper titled Suprabhat Protidin. He was also a member of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.
