The Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (Befaq) authorities have decided to drop Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury’s Dewana Madrasa from the list of Qawmi madrasas.

Befaq authorities took the decision following the Hefazat Amir’s letter to the prime minister to develop the quality of Qawmi madrasas’ education.

Mufti Nurul Amin, joint secretary general of Befaq, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Monday.

“We will issue a letter to the authority of Dewana Madrasa in this regard,” he said.

The letter by Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury made eight recommendations to ensure Qawmi madrasas’ contribution in playing a more effective role in combating militancy, extremism, drug eradication and social degradation.

Befaq joint secretary general termed this move an unwanted intervention in Qawmi education.
