DMP making info log on foreigners

Information such as where a foreigner lives, works and which of the areas s/he frequently visits will be recorded to ensure more safety for them, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia.DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia The commissioner gave the instructions to 49 officers-in-charge of different police stations and deputy commissioner of DMP-8 crime zone at a monthly crime conference on Wednesday. High officials of all the branches of DMP were also present in the three-hour conference. DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said the information would help them keep foreigners from any untoward trouble. On September 28, 2015, Italian citizen Cesare Tavella was shot dead in the diplomatic zone of Gulshan-2. Within a week, Japan national Hoshi Kunio was gunned down by militants in Alutari area of Rangpur. On latest count, 17 foreign nationals had been killed by militants in a Gulshan restaurant on July 1, 2016. After this horrible incident, police have taken a good number of measures to secure Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and other areas where foreigners live. In a recent move, special bus and rickshaw services have been launched in the diplomatic zone of the capital.

“Keep constant vigilance”

Commissioner Asaduzzaman asked police officers to intensify security vigil in all the DMP areas, especially the diplomatic zone. He also stressed conducting block raids, setting up check posts, increasing patrol and visible policing in every area. He, however, warned the police to keep from harassing anyone during discharging their duties. Stern actions would be taken against anyone who faced such allegation, he added.

Bar on using police-like uniforms

The DMP commissioner also asked his officers to take measures against any security providing firms that uses uniforms like that of the police.

Efficient officers awarded

At the end of the conference, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia handed over prizes to field officers for their performance in July. The Wari zone got the performance of the month award. A few assistant police commissioners have also been awarded for their performances in recovering arms, stolen cars, solving cases and arresting militants. For traffic police, the east zone and for bit policing the motijheel police station came best of the month. Apart from that, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman, and Deputy Commissioner of Gushan Zone Moshtaq Ahmed, among others, received prizes in special category.
