Primary-school teacher recruitment: 18L deal made to hire proxies, 3 arrested

Two candidates agreed on paying a fraud ring Tk18 lakh to arrange proxies to take the written exams

Police have arrested three people including two examinees for fraud – namely making a Tk18 lakh deal to hire a proxy test takers – in the Panchagarh primary school teacher recruitment tests. 

Belal Uddin, 38, the leader of the fraud ring, and candidates Moksedur Rahman, 28, and Ahasan Habib, 28, were arrested on Tuesday after their viva tests at the district administration office. 

Ahasan Habib and Moksedur Rahman took the viva tests on Tuesday morning, confirmed Primary Education Teachers Recruitment Board President and Deputy Commissioner Md Jahurul Islam 

However, the examiners found discrepancies between the written and viva answers following which both were questioned, he said. 

During primary questioning, they admitted to proxies taking their tests and agreeing to pay Belal Uddin Tk18 lakhs for passing the tests, he added. 

“The district administration handed them over to the police. They are currently in police custody,” said Panchagarh Sadar Police OC Abdul Latif Miah. 

He said that the district Primary Education Officer Md Shahidul Islam filed a case against them under the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980. 

According to police, there are multiple cases against Belal with the Anti-Corruption Commission and various police stations for fraud and filing false cases against people.
