From distributing relief materials to providing medical aid, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is working tirelessly in Sylhet and Sunamganj to help the flood victims, Director General (DG) of RAB Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has said.
“As long as the people of the districts are suffering for the calamity, we will continue our efforts to help them,” he told a media call after inspecting the elite force’s operations in the flood-hit districts on Friday.
He noted that the elite force had distributed dry and cooked food to the flood victims, and rescued several people by boat, who were marooned.
“If needed we will conduct rescue operations with helicopters too. A medical team, under RAB-9, is also ready to assist the victims who have fallen ill due to the polluted floodwater,” the RAB chief added.
At least five more people died due to flooding in different parts of the country in 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the total flood fatalities to 73.
Four of the new deaths are from the Mymensingh division alone, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the deceased, four died by drowning in floodwater while another died of other reasons.
