Calling for national unity for the greater development of the country, Planning Minister MA Mannan on Saturday said Bangladesh is now experiencing a wonderful time.
“We should not give up national interests for narrow individual interests. The development that has been achieved in the country must be made sustainable,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebration program of the statistics department of Jahangirnagar University.
After the independence, achieved under the leadership of Bangabandhu, the nation has overcome many hurdles under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister added.
“We are not a poor nation now. We now have strong leadership and we are known as a developing country,” he said, adding that the government attaches much importance to the education sector.
Addressing the program as a special guest, Md Enamur Rahman, deputy minister of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said students of Jahangirnagar University are performing their duties with prestige in all sectors of the country.
“I am proud that this university stands proudly in my parliamentary area. I hope everyone in this university will work to build Bangabandhu's dream “Sonar Bangla”. Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing various projects for the development of this university,” he added.
Earlier, former and current students of the statistics department brought out a colorful rally from the premises of the university at 9:30am on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration.
