Mannan: Bangladesh not going to become Sri Lanka

No country becomes isolated just because one person says it, he says

Update : 25 Jun 2023, 07:27 PM

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Sunday said the country's situation would never be like that in Sri Lanka; rather, Bangladesh would follow the paths of European countries, Japan, and China.

Commenting on BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi's statement that Bangladesh has become isolated, the minister said that no country becomes isolated just because one person says it.

Speaking at an event organized to distribute financial aid to the destitute from his personal fund in Sylhet, the minister said the upcoming polls would be held in a free and fair manner, and the ruling party would not stop other parties from joining the polls either.

However, Mannan warned that the government would be tough against those who unleashed anarchy with the help of local people.

Mentioning that there were queues of ships carrying coal for power plants at different docks of the country's seaports, Mannan said that the loadshedding situation had improved significantly.

He alleged that the BNP was spreading rumours because the party had failed to provide electricity when it was in power.

The minister said a quarter had hiked the onion price, and the government successfully brought it down. He added that the government would import more onions, if needed.
