The average life expectancy in Bangladesh rose to 72.4 years in 2022, a slight increase from 72.3 years in 2021, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) shared on Tuesday.
In 2021, the average life expectancy had declined from 72.8 years in 2020. However, in 2019, the average life expectancy of Bangladeshis increased to 72.6 years, an improvement from 72.3 years in 2018.
The information was revealed in the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2022 report released on Tuesday at the BBS building in Dhaka's Agargaon.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest at the event.
Meanwhile, the life expectancy for men saw a small rise to 70.8 years in 2022 compared to 70.6 years in 2021.
Similarly, for women, the average life expectancy increased to 74.2 years in 2022, up from 74.1 years in 2021.
Meanwhile, the overall infant mortality rate has increased in Bangladesh.
The number of deaths among children under the age of one was 22 per 1,000 in 2021, which rose to 25 in 2022.
Similarly, the death rate of children under the age of five also witnessed a rise. In 2022, it stood at 31 deaths per 1,000, but in 2021, it was 28.
