Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to distribute 26,229 more houses to homeless families across Bangladesh on Thursday under the Ashrayan-2 project.
This is the second batch of the Ashrayan-2 project’s third phase, said Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, senior secretary of Prime Minister’s Office on Monday.
Earlier on April 26, a total of 32,904 homeless families got houses under this phase.
Ashrayan-2 is a housing project for the landless and homeless people of Bangladesh which is an initiative of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The beneficiaries have been given semi-permanent houses with land under the Ashrayan-2 project. It has a kitchen and a toilet. There is also a place for raising poultry and growing vegetables in the yard.
In the first phase on January 23, 2021, as many as 63,999 and in the second phase on June 20, 2021, a total of 53,330 homes with land were distributed among the homeless people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The government prepared a list of 885,622 families in 2020. Of them, 293,361 families are landless and homeless, and 592,261 families have 1-10 decimal land but no housing facilities.
