Six members of a family were burnt to death in a fire at a house under the Ashrayan Project in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj.
The deceased have been identified as Emarul, 45, Poly Akhter, 35, Polash, 12, Farhad, 9, Fatema, 7, and Omar Faruk, 3.
Jayashree Union Parishad Chairman Sanjay Roy Chowdhury said locals broke open the door after the fire erupted on Monday night. The house was found locked from the inside.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Dharmapasha Circle) Ali Farid Ahmed said that the fire is currently under control. However, the cause of the incident is still unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. More information will be provided later regarding how the fire started.
Mohammad Gias Uddin, the UNO of Dharmapasha upazila, said that they still cannot determine how the fire broke out. They will be able to provide information based on the investigation. It is still unclear how so many people could be burned to ashes in a single room. An examination is underway to determine whether this was a murder.
