Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has praised government officers highlighting their dedication observed during the Ashrayan projects.
She said that the country's people sometimes blame the government officers but they showed their dedication in the Ashrayan projects.
The premier made these remarks at the closing speech of the 2024-2025 budget session of the 12th National Parliament at the National Parliament.
The prime minister’s appreciation came amid the ongoing criticism against some top government officers for their corruption allegations.
Mentioning the dedication of government officers while working at the world’s largest housing project named Ashrayan and Ashrayan-2 across the country which was mainly coordinated and executed by them, Sheikh Hasina said: “Many people blame our government officials, but I have observed the sincerity and eagerness of the young officers who were engaged in working for the Asharyan project, which gives me a ray of hope.”
"These dedicated individuals are pivotal to our nation's progress. They demonstrate the type of professionalism we need. I saw their sincerity while doing this work,” said the premier who commissioned the Ashrayan project.
Praising the government officer, she said: “Everyone has done these works with their heart and soul efforts.”
According to the project details, a total of 266,012 landless and homeless families were rehabilitated in the first, second, third, and fourth phases and the first stage of the fifth phases of the Ashrayan-2 project.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman introduced the rehabilitation program for homeless people in 1972.
Following the footprints of Bangabandhu, her daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, took the initiative to provide ownership of houses and lands to the homeless and landless people through the Ashrayan project in 1997.
Under the Ashrayan project, a total of 771,301 families have been rehabilitated so far since 1997.
The number of rehabilitated people is 3,856,505 (estimated as five persons in a family).
So far 4,340,000 people of 867,904 landless and homeless families have been rehabilitated under the Ashrayan and other programs across the country while 2,910,265 people of 582,053 landless and homeless people have been rehabilitated under the Ashrayan project only.
