BTV app has been launched with the facility of watching Bangladesh Television on mobile phones and from now on people can download the app from Google Play Android devices and App Store Apple devices.
People can watch four channels — BTV, BTV World, BTV Chittagong and Sangshad TV — through the app.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday inaugurated the app at a function in the meeting room of his ministry at the Secretariat.
In his speech, the minister said the facility of watching BTV from any part of the world through the app is the beginning of a new era for the state-owned media.
It is yet another pro-people example of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s digital Bangladesh, he added.
BTV Director General Soharab Hossain, Sangshad Bangladesh Television Director General Abeda Akther, BTV Deputy Director General (program) Dr Syeda Tasmina Ahmed and several other officials of the ministry and BTV were present.
Hasan said the electronic media is playing a pivotal role in focusing the scenario of the society and forming the mindset of the people. “Electronic media started its journey with the initiative of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The journey of private televisions started under her leadership after taking charge in 1996,” he added.
Presently, there are 34 channels in operation while 11 channels are waiting for airing, he said.
He said vast changes have taken place in the media sector and job opportunities have also been created. Thousands of people are earning their livelihood through their direct or indirect involvement with TV channels, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
The minister said private TV channels are also contributing to the country’s economy.
He urged all concerned to make programs which will help the new generation foster love and affection for the country.
He said the activities of setting up six more BTV centres at the six other divisional cities have been started.
Hasan also urged all to maintain health rules due to the Covid-19 situation.
