Despite Bangladesh going into a week-long lockdown from Monday, the nationwide vaccination campaign will continue, says the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Authorities will start administering the second doses of the vaccine from April 8, its spokesperson Robed Amin told the media on Saturday.

“Administration of the first doses will end on Monday and we will start giving the second doses from April 8, the campaign will continue amid the lockdown,” he said.

Bangladesh is all set to go into the lockdown, the second since the pandemic broke out in the country in March last year, as the coronavirus situation took a serious turn.

The country has been logging over 5,000 cases and 50 deaths from the deadly virus in the past few days.

The vaccination campaign had started on February 7 through the country, administering the first jab to 5,412,791 people until Friday.
