Mymensingh man first to surrender to war crimes tribunal

War crimes accused from Mymensingh Md Abdus Sattar has surrendered before the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka. The three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque sent the 61-year-old accused to jail after hearing his bail petition on Tuesday. Public prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman said: “Eight people, including Sattar, have been made accused in the case. Of them, two accused are at large.” The seven other accused are Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Hannan, his son Md Rafique Sajjad, Khondokar Golam Chhabir Ahmad, Mizanur Rahman Mintu, Md Hormuj Ali, Md Fakhruzzaman and Khondoker Golam Rabbani. The prosecution submitted formal charges against them on October 31, 2016. The accused were charged with six offences including murder, disappearance, torture, confinement, arson and looting at different place of Mymensingh. Rahima Khatun, wife of martyred freedom fighter Abdur Rahman, filed the case on May 19, 2015. Later, the case was transferred to the tribunal. The investigation agency started the probe against them in July the same year.
