Anisul briefs UN rights committee on ICCPR implementation status

Law Minister Anisul Huq has provided a brief account to the UN Human Rights Committee on various measures taken by the government for the implementation of ICCPR in the Bangladesh context. A high level delegation led by Law Minister Anisul Huq participated in an interactive dialogue with the members of the UN Human Rights Committee on the current human rights situation in Bangladesh, says a press release. The two-day meeting was held on March 6 and 7 in Geneva. At the meeting, the law minister reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to making further efforts in realising the civil and political rights of the people of the country. Questions related to freedom of expression also covered a significant portion of the dialogue. The committee also requested information on status of Rohingyas living in Bangladesh. The committee appreciated Bangladesh for submitting its initial report on ICCPR. Bangladesh acceded to ICCPR in 2000. The initial report, however, was submitted by the Government of Bangladesh to the committee in June 2015.
