He said: “Suranjit had always spoken out against anti-liberation war-based politics. He had never compromised with it. As a result, he faced several death threats from militancy groups.”
“In fact, Suranjit struck the nation several times by raising his voice against the corruption committed by the Awami League government. He spoke often of the faults committed by the current party’s ministers,” he added.Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said: “Veteran Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta had a unique personality, one who never compromised with criminal acts, even those committed by politicians.”
“Suranjit made huge contributions to our parliamentarian democracy. He played a vital role in preparing the Constitution,” he said.
The seven-time MP and former railway minister died at Labaid Hospital around 4:24am on Sunday. He was a member of the party’s Advisory Council and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law Ministry.
