On Friday, after the Jummah prayers, his body was taken to Azimpur after the namaz-e-janaza held at Shahi Eidgah Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi 6/A, Dhaka. The ceremony was attended by DU teachers, students, family members, and well-wishers.

After the funeral, the vice-chancellor said that, considering the overall situation and the family's wishes, the funeral would not be held at Dhaka University.

He added: “However, a special prayer for him will be offered at the Central Jame Mosque on behalf of the university. Additionally, formalities to honour him as a former vice-chancellor will be observed.”

Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan also mentioned that he would strive to uphold the legacy of Professor Arefin Siddique as a vice-chancellor.

Earlier, at 10:45pm on Thursday, the on-duty doctor declared Professor Arefin Siddique dead. He passed away while undergoing treatment at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital due to a stroke and brain haemorrhage.
