Probe team visits fire gutted DNCC market

Update : 04 Jan 2017, 02:16 PM
Led by Director (training) Lt Col Mosharof Hossain of Fire Service and Civil Defence, the seven-member probe body reached the market in the morning. “The investigation is still in its initial stage. We are yet to ascertain how the fire started and the volume of loss caused by the blaze,” Mosharof said. He also said currently 11 fire fighting units, comprised of over 100 members, were working to douse the fire. Some DNCC officials also joined the operation. The DNCC authorities have started removing the charred materials from the collapsed building. Meanwhile, the shop owners held a meeting in front of the market to fix their next course of action. On Tuesday, the Fire Service authorities formed the probe body that include two DNCC officials, the local councillor and four fire service staff. The massive fire broke out in the market around 2:30am Tuesday leading one portion of the kitchen market to collapse and damage another adjacent market. However, no casualty was reported in the incident. Shop owners and leaders of the two markets – City Corporation (North) No 1 Kitchen Market and Gulshan DNCC Market – blamed the city corporation authorities and Metro Group for the fire.
