Update : 13 Oct 2017, 07:16 PM
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha is scheduled to leave Bangladesh for Australia on Friday night. He has booked tickets for the Singapore Airlines' SQ-447 flight scheduled to take-off at 11:55pm, reports the Bangla Tribune. The head of the Judiciary is going to be accompanied by his wife. Sinha had already written to the president mentioning that they would stay abroad from October 13 till November 10. On Thursday, the Law Ministry issued a gazette notification on the government order about Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s leaving for Australia. Earlier on Wednesday, President Abdul Hamid signed the government order [GO file], granting the chief justice permission to leave Bangladesh. On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq signed the government order file. It could be mentioned, Surendra Kumar Sinha went on a one month leave from October 3, citing health complications. A faction of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and several opposition party leaders claimed that the chief justice is being forcibly sent on leave due to his stance on the 16th amendment to the constitution and criticism over the delay for issuance of gazette on rules for lower court judges’ conduct. This article was first published by Bangla Tribune
