Impressed with India's prime minister, a Muslim family in a remote village of India has named their newborn Narendra Damodardas Modi.
Mainaz Begum, 40, a resident of Parsapur Mahrarur village in Wazirganj on Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh of India, gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday.
When Mushtaq Ahmed, Mainaz's husband who works in Dubai, was informed of the baby's birth, he asked his wife to name him after Modi.

According to local media, Mainaz said: “After an exchange of greetings through a video call, (Mushtaq) asked me to name the baby Narendra Damodardas Modi, as his birth coincided with Modi’s victory in the Lok Sabha polls.”
The family has filed an affidavit addressed to the district magistrate and submitted it to Assistant Development Officer (Panchayat) Ghanshyam Pandey.
When asked about the likely criticism within the Muslim community over their decision, Idris said: “Why should people oppose it? Modiji is our PM and this is something we take pride in. Secondly, naming the boy is our family’s decision.”
Confirming that he received the affidavit from the family, Pandey said: “The affidavit along with the application have been forwarded to the gram panchayat adhikari. Soon, the name of the baby will be registered,” he said.
In the affidavit, Mainaz Begum is said to have lavishly praised Modi and his government's welfare schemes, including free cooking gas connections to the poor and financial help to construct toilets.
