Sisters accidentally swap grooms during power failure in India

Before realizing the error, the two brides went through a series of pre-wedding ceremonies with the wrong spouse

Update : 11 May 2022, 07:36 PM

A power outage led to a confusing mix-up of the brides at a quadruple wedding event in a village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The wedding disaster, which took place on Thursday in the village of Aslana, gained people’s attention after a local media article went viral on social media.

The unusual mix-up occurred after the brides' father, Rameshlal Railot, planned to hold the weddings of his son and three daughters on the same day, according to the Independent.

The town experienced a power outage when the pre-wedding party began around 9pm, and two of Railot's daughters found themselves seated with the wrong groom for the initial wedding rites.

Before electricity was restored and family members realized the error, the two brides went through a series of pre-wedding ceremonies with the wrong spouse.

Railot's elder brother Sitaram claimed that one bride's hand was handed to the wrong groom owing to a power outage, which he described as a common occurrence in the area.

He went on to say that the wedding otherwise "went on as planned," with the wedding vows being said with the correct grooms as soon as the electricity was restored after midnight.

Sitaram said that the community lacked sufficient electrical pylons, and the event demonstrated how serious an issue regular power outages can be for the residents.
