‘Nothing against religious values will have a place in our politics’

Since Friday night, various images have been shared on social media, sparking discussions and criticism about the party’s newly formed committee

Jatiya Nagorik Party’s newly appointed Chief Organizer (North) Sarjis Alam and Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah said that their politics will never go against religious values.

In identical Facebook posts on Saturday, both leaders wrote: "I want to make it clear that nothing against religious values will ever have a place in my or our politics. What happened was an unintentional mistake. We are not perfect. If we make any mistake, we expect our brothers to point it out to us, and we will correct it — without ‘if,’ ‘but,’ or ‘or’.”

Sarjis Alam further emphasized: "We have always had, have, and will always have this mindset of making corrections, God willing."

Both leaders reaffirmed their religious identity, stating: "Even before politics, my identity is that I am a Muslim. I hold this identity, and I always will. I will never engage in politics that hurts my faith or the faith of others in my country."

The simultaneous posts have raised speculation about the underlying reason behind them. While neither leader explicitly mentioned the context, it is believed that their statements were in response to social media allegations.

Reports circulating online claim that a joint member secretary of the newly announced Jatiya Nagorik Party has links to the homosexual and transgender community.
