Update : 21 Aug 2024, 09:47 PM

The government has decided to revoke the diplomatic passports (red passports) issued in the names of the recently former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former ministers and MPs.

Md Mashiur Rahman, senior secretary of the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, confirmed this information on Wednesday.

He said that the necessary procedures for this matter have already been initiated.

The secretary said that an order regarding this matter will be issued soon.

The Immigration and Passport Department has already been instructed, and they have started working on it.

The decision was made by the interim government two weeks after the fall of the Awami League government.

In addition to members of parliament, their family members also receive diplomatic (red) passports.

Following the fall of the Awami League government in a recent mass uprising by students and citizens in Bangladesh, the interim government began the process of revoking the diplomatic passports issued in the names of Sheikh Hasina and former ministers and MPs.
