Ekushey Padak winner, teacher, writer and linguist Prof Dr Moniruzzaman passed away on Wednesday. He was 84.
The government conferred the Ekushey Padak to him for language and literature in 2023. He also won the Bangla Academy Award for his contribution to essay literature in 2015.
The eminent professor was born on February 15, 1940.
He received his PhD in Linguistics from the University Of Mysuru (UoM) in India.
He has published thirty-five books on language, literature and folklore.
Dr Moniruzzaman was a professor and chairman of the Bangla Department of Chittagong University.
He also served as the dean of the Faculty of Arts at the same university and was once the director of Nazrul Institute.
