Children’s art competition held at Shilpakala Academy

A daylong drawing competition highlighting environmental issues and aspects was organized by the Department of Environment (DoE) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Friday.

Carrying the theme “We will recover occupied land, resist deserting and cope with drought”, the event marked the forthcoming Environment Day to be celebrated on May 5 globally, according to a press release.  

DoE Director General (DG) Abdul Hamid attended it as the chief guest, as the contest started at 11am.

Legendary artist Syed Abul Barak Alvi, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director Syeda Mahbunba Karim, its Deputy Director Khandaker Rezaul Hashem and DoE Additional DG Md Siddiqur Rahman evaluating the drawings.

The competition was held in four groups, with Group-A containing contestants aged below eight.

Those in Group Group-B and Group-C were from the 8-12 and 12-16 age groups, respectively. Group-C had some children with special needs too.

Those aged between 16 and 18 were in the last group: Group-D.

A staggering 800 children and adolescents took part in the contest.

The names of the winners will be published on the notice board of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and on the website (www.doe.gov.bd) of the DoE on May 21. 

The guardians of the winners will also be informed about the judgement of the competition over the phone.
