Update : 29 Jun 2024, 06:45 PM

A day-long event on World Environment Day was organized by Agami Education Foundation (AEF) as part of the ''Life is Fun'' science education program, in collaboration with Probha Aurora, a social enterprise focused on climate change.  The theme of this event was “Actions for Restoration,” and the main objective of this program was to teach the students about the steps they can take to help protect the environment. The celebration of this event took place at Saffron Auditorium in Mohammadpur on June 1, 2024.

About 50 students from seven schools participated in the event this year. Participating students demonstrated various science projects highlighting issues which are regarded as very important topics in today’s world, such as production of hydroelectricity, environmental restoration, reducing temperature levels in city areas with high levels of pollution, etc. Judges, guests, and visitors were amazed to see the exhibition of talent among the students.

Student projects

A total of 15 projects were presented to guests and judges and at the end of the day, the winning projects were:

  1. Renewable energy production by students of PSD Nandipara School
  2. High-density urban farming by students of Alok Shikkhaloy
  3. Reduction of toxic emissions in urban areas submitted by students of Shohag Swapnadhara Pathshala.

Group projects like these can seem like daunting tasks, but it helped her step out of her comfort zone and team up with others for her project

Some students shared their experiences while preparing for the event. Tanzila, a fifth grader from Sohag Swapnadhara, said that although fairs like these are considered a co-curricular activity, given that they take place out of school hours, she has been able to use the knowledge and information she has gained while creating these projects during her school work. She also added that group projects like these can seem like daunting tasks, but it helped her step out of her comfort zone and team up with others for her project. She was excited as she finally got the chance to apply the knowledge she gained studying from her science book.

Mustakim, a student from PSD Nandipara School mentioned that the biggest impact this event had on him was the fact that he gained presentation skills. Before this, he had no such experience. However, after taking part in mock presentations in front of his teachers and peers, his confidence was boosted and it made it a lot easier for him to speak in front of the judges and audience on the day of the event. The results of his efforts were clearly fruitful as his team secured first place for their project on renewable energy production.

Shahin Alom, a student of Alok Shikkaloy also expressed his feelings. He and his team submitted their project at the time of their school exams and hence they were all under immense pressure. He also did not forget the huge contributions of his teachers and thanked them for helping his team perform so well. At the event, Shahin and his team were elated as they came third.

Organizers and scholars

By taking part in this event, the students got to have their knowledge on the environment thoroughly tested, and get the opportunity to display their capabilities and creativity.
