Who loved whom and how much
Or who first fell in love --
The arguments were endless.
You said, “You are the initiator
By weaving words into a poetic form.”
I said, “You are right.
But the tears that welled up in your eyes
Signified the innocence of your love.”
Love used to tremble on your lips,
Love was wayward in your dishevelled hair.
Your nonverbal signs outdid
My verbal ones in strength.
Like an unskilled swimmer
I tried to plumb the depth of your love
And failed miserably.
All the points and counterpoints
Came to an abrupt end one fine morning.
How can one argue with someone
Who has morphed into an astral glow in the sky?
