Update : 03 Dec 2013, 04:50 PM

Bangladesh shuttlers started their Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Open Challenge-2013 campaign disappointingly as most of the local participants were knocked out of the tournament on the opening day yesterday.

The only shuttler from Bangladesh to reach the second round was Md Rais Uddin in the men’s singles event after earning a hard-fought victory of 14-21, 21-15, 21-19 over Jinn Yee Tin of Malaysia.

In the men’s doubles, Md Anamul Haque and Md Ahsan Habib Parash advanced to the next round by beating Bodhimauwa and Samarasinghe of Sri Lanka 21-8, 21-9. The Bangladeshi duo will face India in the second round.

“Hopefully we will beat India in the doubles next round. I played against Indian national team two years ago. Our next opponents are not from the Indian national team but they are seeded second in the tournament,” said Parash yesterday.

Meanwhile, Md. Abdullah Al Masrafi lost to K Dilshad of india 21-12, 21-17, Sri Lankan Dinuka Karunaratne beat Ayman Ibn Jaman 21-9, 21-18, Indian shuttler Arun Kumar Ashok Kumar outplayed Md Anamul Haque 21-9, 21-19, Nathaniel Ernestan Sulistyo of Indonesia downed Chand Lal 21-13, 21-9, Bikash Shrestha of Nepal defeated Tushar Krishna Roy by 21-14, 16-21, 21-6, Shahzan Shah Misfahul of Malaysia crushed Md Rahad Kabir Khaled by 21-5, 21-10 and Indian Subhankar Dey thrashed Mohammed Jabed Mostafa 21-4, 21-10 points in the men’s singles.

In the women’s singles, Juhi Dewangan of India beat Rehana Parvin and Mohita Sahdev (India) humbled Aktar Nabila 21-6, 21-3.

“The Indian team is better than ours. They are a standard team. We tried to win last game but we failed,” said Masrafi after being defeated by Dilshad, while Aiman blamed lack of preparation for the loss.
