Six wins in a row for Rani Hamid

Despite her success, the Bangladesh women's team lost to Argentina by 3-1 game points

Rani Hamid continued her magnificent form in the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024, as the veteran Women's International Master secured her sixth win in as many matches with a victory over her Argentine opponent in the ninth round Friday.

Despite her success, the Bangladesh women's team lost to Argentina by 3-1 game points.

The 80-year old defeated the higher-ranked Maria Belen Sarquis, marking her sixth consecutive win.

Noshin Anjum, Nusrat Jahan Alo, and Wadifa Ahmed however, lost their games against Candela Be Francisco Guecamburu, Maria Jose Campos, and Anapaola S. Borda Rodas, respectively.

Rani, who started playing from the third round, had earlier defeated opponents from Barbados, Botswana, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, and Sweden in the tournament being held in Budapest, Hungary.

In the open section, the Bangladesh men's team returned to winning ways by defeating Lebanon 2.5-1.5 in game points in the ninth round on the same day.

Manon Reja Neer and Tahsin Tajwar Zia won their matches against Akram Khoder and Joe Assaad, respectively, while Mohammad Fahad Rahman drew with Amro El Jawich.

Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib lost to Adib Arkadan.

In the 10th round Saturday, the Bangladesh open team will face Israel, while the women's team will take on Norway.
