80-year old Rani Hamid defeats Barbados opponent in Chess Olympiad

Bangladesh’s oldest participant, Rani Hamid, defeated Springer Leshay of Barbados in the third-round match of the 45th Chess Olympiad, currently being held in Budapest, Hungary.

Women FIDE Masters Noshin Anjum and Wadifa Ahmed also secured victories in their respective matches, as Bangladesh’s women’s team, led by Rani, triumphed over Barbados with a 3.5-0.5 score.

Noshin and Wadifa defeated Wilson Hannah and Reifer-Belle Chanon, respectively, while Woman Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo drew her match against WCM Blackman Katrina.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh men’s team, featuring International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib, and FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, won their third-round match against Cyprus by the same 3.5-0.5 margin.

In the open section, Fahad, Razib, and Tahsin achieved victories against FM Michaelides Konstantinos, CM Savva Panikos, and Kefalas Loukas of Cyprus, respectively.

FIDE Master Manon Reja Neer drew his game against Isaakidis Alexandros.
